The Y’s Men’s Club of Nagpur was inaugurated on 8th October and chartered on 27th November 2005. It launched its first project the night study centre for less privileged and needy students at Social Education Centre, Gaddigodam providing them study conducive atmosphere for self study supported by volunteers.
The Y’s Men and Y’s Menettes together organized several programmes during the year.
Besides joining the YMCA on national days for the flag
hoisting on January 26 and August 15, the Club introduced a workshop on good handwriting in Urdu, Hindi, Marathi and English which was followed by a competition in good handwriting and prizes were awarded to the achievers.
The art of card making, drawing and painting was taught to the children of Night Study Centre which again was followed by a competition in card making and prize distribution for the winners.
A programme enriching home cooking based on wholesome nutrition and diet was held for the parents to inculcate proper food habits.
In a spirit of religious harmony a get-to-gather cum celebration was organized in December 2006 combining celebrations of Diwali Id and Christmas, where children enjoyed party games, fun filled sports and refreshments. The club enjoys the reputation of having held 38 meetings within a year for both business and fellowship. The Club
considers it its responsibility to mentor and sustain the Y’s Men’s Club of Orange City and others in the neighbouring area and therefore has reached out to Jabalpur, Panjim, Goa, Amravati and has plans to reach out to others.
The Y’s Men’s Club has also encouraged growth of Y’s Mennettes Club of Y’s Men’s Club (wives of Y’s Men weaving independent and complimentary programme an services) and youth club, the objective being to involve the entire family.
