YETME is an intervention that touches the lives of young women particularly, and men, from marginalized socio-economic communities. When these youth enter the program, they present a picture of need: indifferent health, listless, lacking nourishment, confidence and much else, especially hope. The program has over the years not only touched them but also their families. They emerge with greater self-esteem, having acquired skills for work and employment, and with a sharp awareness on health, personal hygiene, discipline and social issues.
The project also has a preventive aspect. Young women and men, susceptible to exploitation by anti-social elements and delinquency, are turned to more productive ways of living in our multicultural and multi-religious society. Our youth are drawn from all religious groups. There is no discrimination whatsoever.
Employment opportunities and skills training for marginalized and disadvantaged youth are two crucial needs in Nagpur today and in the foreseeable future. Nagpur YMCA is providing for long term, sustainable, vocational training projects to empower needy young men and women with professional skills, and the spirit of enterprise, for employment or self-employment.
The facility is being currently used for the following:
General awareness training including health and HIV
Training in personal development
Vocational skills development
Tailoring
Beauty culture
Electrician and motor rewinding
Battery maintenance, repair and re-charging.
Food and catering services
Carrying out job work with a view to sustainability.
A nursery school for poor children.
Battery Plus - Batteries are widely used in vehicles, computer power systems, inverters and other applications in domestic and industrial sector due to power shortages. Here youth is being trained in assembling, maintaining, charging, repair of batteries, and entrepreneurial skills which will empower them for self-employment or employment in existing establishments.
Wire Works - Another area for potential employment generation is in electrical services and motor rewinding. Homes and commercial establishments need the services of dependable and competent electricians for undertaking electrical wiring, repair and maintenance. Motor rewinding is a related skill that will cater to market needs.
